Slovnaft BAjk — Bratislava's bike-share
The Slovnaft BAjk system launched in October 2024 with 550 bikes across 73 stations citywide. Bikes are available 24/7. Register via the app (iOS/Android) — a ročný pass (annual pass) costs around €35. The first 60 minutes of each journey are included in the daily or annual pass. Stations cluster along the Danube, in Ružinov, Petržalka, Staré Mesto, and Nové Mesto. The system is operated by Bratislava city in partnership with Slovnaft.

Skiing near Bratislava — distances & resorts
Slovakia has some of Central Europe's best skiing. The closest major resort to Bratislava: Snowparadise Veľká Rača (~270 km north). The biggest and most popular: Jasná Nízke Tatry (~300 km northeast) — 35 km of pistes, regular Snow Report at jasna.sk. For a day trip, Donovaly (~200 km) is often the fastest option. Ski season typically runs December to April. Train to Ružomberok + shuttle bus is a popular option for Jasná.
🏃
Outdoor sport — trails, pools & the Danube
The Malé Karpaty range starts at Bratislava's northern edge — marked trails for hiking, trail running, and MTB. The Danube cycling path (Eurovelo 6) runs through Bratislava and east toward Budapest. Pasienky Aquatics Centre (Junácka 4) reopened in March 2025 after full renovation — Olympic pool, splash zone, and outdoor areas. The Zlaté Piesky lake park in Ružinov has swimming, beach volleyball, and water sports in summer.

Day-trip packages from Bratislava exist — check Slovak Lines or private ski transfer services. Ski season typically runs December to April depending on snowfall.
Yes — there is a growing community of English-speaking personal trainers in Bratislava, particularly in the Staré Mesto, Ružinov, and Karlova Ves areas. Several trainers specialise in working with expats. ExpatBase's Sports & Fitness directory lists trainers who have confirmed English-language service. Many gym chains (FitPass, Holmes Place) also employ English-speaking staff.
Holmes Place (Eurovea mall) is the most expat-frequented gym due to its location, English signage, and variety of classes. FitPass offers a multi-gym access card covering 8+ facilities — ideal if you're not sure which gym you'll use most. For yoga and pilates, several boutique studios in Staré Mesto and Karlova Ves cater to English speakers. CrossFit boxes are popular with the expat crowd too — search "CrossFit Bratislava" for current locations.
